How to format USB in FAT32 (Mac)

Please be aware that formatting a USB drive will erase all data currently on the drive. Make sure to backup any important files before proceeding with the formatting process. Once the drive is formatted, the previous data can not be recovered.

This guide explains how to format a USB drive on a computer with Mac OS X operating system.

Please open each step below...

  • Insert the USB drive into the computer.
  • Open the Finder application on your Mac.
  • Click on the USB drive from the list of available drives.
  • Click on the File menu from the top menu bar, then select Get Info.
  • Click on Erase button.
  • Select MS-DOS(FAT) from the Format dropdown menu.
  • Click Erase to begin the formatting process.
  • Wait for the process to complete, then eject the USB drive safely by dragging it to the trash can or right clicking on the drive and select Eject.
